For those of you who don’t know me, I’m Julie Sanders, and I’m counting on your vote for Comal County Commissioner Precinct 1.
Prior to the last administration, I would classify myself somewhere between apolitical and detesting anything politically related. But the policies enacted during those four years resulted in atrocious impacts on me, people I love and communities across the country. I wanted to do something to bring about positive change, but was unsure how to proceed.
In 2018, I moved to Canyon Lake; about two weeks later, I found out I was pregnant at 42 with my miracle baby. In the next four years, I found my chosen family of like-minded women, who have been instrumental as a social outlet and a source of inspiration to become politically active.
Through this group of phenomenal, strong, hilarious, kind, compassionate and brilliant women, I was educated on the importance of voting in every election, not just the presidential race. It also became increasingly clear that supporting and electing like-minded residents to local offices is part of the bigger political picture.
Why am I, of all people, running for county commissioner? Here's why: I have heart, integrity, accountability and I’m not afraid to speak up when things aren’t right. When I don’t know the answers, I will find them. I’m not a politician, I’m just your average citizen who wants better for our children and our community. And starting at the county level matters!
Comal County is my home. My community. The only home that the 4-year-old love of my life has ever known and where he goes to school. I can’t look him in the eye with a straight face and say I didn’t try to make a positive impact on the community in which we live.
